Orthodontic Treatments

Precision teeth alignment and bite correction utilizing classic brackets and advanced invisible clear aligners.

Orthodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry dedicated to diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities, known as malocclusions. Common alignment issues include crowded teeth, excessive spacing (gaps), crooked teeth, underbites, overbites, crossbites, and open bites. Misaligned teeth are not only an aesthetic concern; they can cause significant functional problems, including difficulty chewing, speech impediments, premature wear of the enamel, and increased susceptibility to tooth decay and gum disease due to the difficulty of cleaning tightly crowded spaces. Under the specialist supervision of Uzm. Dt. Yusuf Kurt, our clinic provides personalized orthodontic treatments for children, teenagers, and adults, offering options that range from traditional metal and ceramic brackets to state-of-the-art, virtually invisible clear aligner therapies (such as Invisalign). The biomechanics of orthodontic tooth movement: The alignment of teeth is a biological process governed by bone remodeling. When orthodontic appliances apply gentle, continuous mechanical force to a tooth, it places pressure on the surrounding periodontal ligament. On the side of the tooth where pressure is applied, specialized bone cells called osteoclasts break down the bone tissue (resorption), creating space for the tooth to move. On the opposite side, where tension is created, cells called osteoblasts build new bone tissue (deposition), stabilizing the tooth in its new position. Because this remodeling occurs slowly, orthodontic treatment requires time and precise force calibration to ensure the roots are moved safely without causing damage. Choosing the right treatment modality: - Traditional Metal Braces: These remain the most reliable and efficient option for correcting severe or complex skeletal and dental malocclusions. They consist of stainless steel brackets bonded to the teeth, connected by a flexible archwire that is adjusted periodically to guide the teeth. - Ceramic (Aesthetic) Braces: Made from translucent polycrystalline alumina, ceramic brackets mimic the natural shade of your teeth. Combined with tooth-colored archwires, they provide the strength of traditional braces with a much lower visual profile, making them popular among adults. - Clear Aligners: This modern alternative replaces brackets and wires with a series of custom-fabricated, transparent thermoplastic trays. The aligners are worn for 22 hours a day and are removed only for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Every 1 to 2 weeks, you switch to the next set in the series, gradually moving your teeth into position. - The Retention Phase: Teeth have a natural memory and tend to drift back to their original positions after treatment. To prevent this, a retention phase is mandatory. This involves wearing removable clear retainers (such as Essix retainers) or bonding a thin, passive retainer wire to the back of the front teeth (fixed lingual retainer).

Orthodontic Treatment Steps

1

3D Diagnostics & Orthodontic Analysis: We capture digital 3D intraoral scans of your teeth, panoramic X-rays, and lateral cephalometric scans. This digital analysis allows us to measure jaw relationships, plan the tooth movements, and simulate the final results.

2

Appliance Bonding or Aligner Delivery: For braces, brackets are precisely bonded to the enamel, and the initial archwire is placed. For clear aligners, we bond small, tooth-colored composite attachments to your teeth to give the aligners grip, and deliver your first sets.

3

Adjustment Sessions & Monitoring: Every 4 to 6 weeks, you visit our clinic to adjust the tension of the archwires, swap elastic bands, or check your aligner tracking. If you wear aligners, you will receive your next batches of trays during these checkups.

4

Debonding & Active Retention Phase: Once the teeth reach their ideal positions, the braces are removed, and the enamel is polished. We immediately fabricate and place your custom retainers to stabilize the teeth and protect your new smile alignment.

Key Advantages of Orthodontic Alignment

Restores Symmetric Smile Aesthetics: Aligns crooked teeth and closes unsightly gaps, creating a balanced and confident smile symmetry.

Corrects Bite Function (Occlusion): Resolves overbites and underbites, improving chewing efficiency and preventing wear on the tooth enamel.

Reduces Decay & Gum Disease Risk: Straightening crowded teeth eliminates hard-to-reach food trap zones, making daily brushing and flossing highly effective.

Relieves TMJ & Jaw Pressure: Corrects bite discrepancies that cause stress and chronic pain in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and jaw muscles.

Improves Pronunciation & Speech: Resolves speech issues caused by open bites or severe misalignments of the front teeth.

Oral Hygiene & Aligner Wear Guidelines

To achieve the best orthodontic results and keep your teeth healthy during treatment, follow these guidelines: - Braces Hygiene: Food particles easily collect around brackets and wires. You must brush after every meal using an orthodontic toothbrush with a V-shaped groove and clean under the archwire using interdental brushes. Use a floss threader or specialized orthodontic floss to clean between the teeth daily. - Aligners Compliance: Clear aligners must be worn for 20 to 22 hours daily. Only remove them to eat, drink (anything other than cold water), brush, and floss. Clean the trays daily using a soft brush and lukewarm water; never use hot water, as it can warp the thermoplastic. - Dietary Adjustments: If you have braces, avoid hard, crunchy, or sticky foods (caramels, popcorn, hard candies, whole apples, nuts) that can break the brackets or pull the wires out of position. Elma gibi meyveleri ısırarak değil, dilimleyerek yemelisiniz. - Retainer Discipline: Wear your retainers exactly as instructed. Neglecting retention will lead to orthodontic relapse, causing the teeth to shift back to their original crooked positions.
